First Sumiden Circuits, Inc. (FSCI), pioneer manufacturer of flexible printed circuits in the Philippines
was one of the finalists in the 2006 Awards for Excellence in Workplace Volunteer Programs of the Points
of Light Foundation, a US-based award-giving body. The Awards for Excellence in Workplace Volunteerism
is the top US award for the most outstanding employee volunteer programs in any small, medium, large or
international business. FSCI’s “Daop Palad,” the company’s center for corporate social responsibility (CSR)
undertakings is focused on improving the health, education, livelihood, and environmental aspects of its
community. It considers Semiconductor Electronics Industries of the Philippines, Inc. (SEIPI), the industry
association where FSCI belongs, Light Industry & Science Park 1 (LISP1) Locators’ Association, the industrial
park association where FSCI is located and the Municipality of Cabuyao, Laguna, where a plurality (32%) of
its employees reside as its key communities. It has assisted more than 10,000 families in its community
through its medical/dental/eye missions, gift-giving, tree-planting, and other CSR projects. In addition,
FSCI shares the company’s best practices in road shows and public forums of Personnel Management Association
of the Philippines’ (PMAP), SEIPI and Philippine Quality Award (PQA)
"Daop Palad-Sagip Kapamilya Project" (top photo) was one of its major volunteerism activities wherein
employees willingly gave up their Christmas Party in 2004 and donated the budget to purchase 850 pcs. of
galvanized iron sheets, clothes, canned goods and sacks of rice to residents of Brgy. Agos-agos, Infanta.

FSCI won all the awards in the 18-30 female age category and bagged 2nd place in the 31-45 female age category. Industrial Engineers Charisse Malaque and Fleur
Gatasi bagged 1st and 2nd places while Mary Anne Vargas, Production Operator, won 3rd place. In the age 31-45 category, Jo-anne Calinog, QA Auditor won 2nd place.

Six Sigma as a business process tool continues to be one of the drivers of First Sumiden Circuits, Inc.’s
success. In 2007, FSCI received an Honorary Mention for Best Defect Elimination in Manufacturing from its
process improvement project entitled “Coverlay Registration Defect Reduction” in the Six Sigma Excellence
Awards during 2007 Asian Six Sigma Summit held in Singapore.
