FSCI Gives the Gift of Knowledge

First Sumiden Circuits, Inc. (FSCI), through its Daop Palad Program, formally turned over the Gift of Knowledge to the students of Cabuyao public elementary and high schools last February 12, 2003. FSCI President Dan Lachica, Sky Foundation Executive Director Rina Lopez-Bautista, FSCI HR Manager Gerry Domingo, FSCI employee representatives Emily Tayson, Eugenia Villapando, Geraldine Sergote, local government representatives, principals and students of Cabuyao public schools attended the Turnover Ceremony held in Cabuyao Central Elementary School.

Recognizing its social responsibility to its community, FSCI launched Daop Palad two years ago when the company embarked on a medical, dental and gift-giving mission to one of the most depressed communities in Cabuyao, where FSCI is located. Since then, Cabuyao has benefited much from various Daop Palad Outreach projects. The most recent of which is the Daop Palad-Knowledge Channel Project wherein the company solicited donations from its employees and suppliers to finance cabling, installation of TV sets and hook up Cabuyao public schools to Knowledge Channel. Knowledge Channel is an educational cable TV channel. Its programs are based on the curriculum of the Department of Education to supplement elementary and high school public education in order to increase students' competencies in Math, Science and English.

Putting corporate volunteerism into concrete action, FSCI launched the Knowledge Channel Project among its employees last November 2002. The employees readily supported the project and two months after the campaign, the company exceeded its target solicitations. With the assistance of the local government of Laguna, FSCI installed TV sets and hooked up Cabuyao National High School and Cabuyao Central Elementary School to Knowledge Channel. A total of 7,671 students will benefit from the project. They will now be able to gain access to quality education. FSCI committed to continuously support Knowledge Channel in its aim to cable more public schools in Cabuyao and to improve the quality of their education. Individual employee donations may seem insignificant, but taken collectively, employees' resources gave students not only the opportunity to have a better education but also a better life and future.
